  1. Students finished the film Promises.
  2. Students began writing creative dialogues and conversations from the perspective of one or more students from the film.

History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict

Agendas 4/19-4/25:
  1. Students learned about the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict by debating possible UN responses to events in the region. Students read about the events and took notes on this worksheet.
  2. Students read excerpts from the book Footnotes in Gaza.
  3. Students began watching the film Promises which focuses on Arab-Israeli issues through the eyes if adolescents living in and around Jerusalem.

Geography / Art of the Middle East

Agenda 4/15:
  1. Students reviewed their notes about the major religions of the Middle East: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The wrote down 5 similarities and differences.
  2. Students viewed a slideshow of the Geography of the Middle East [below].
  3. Students view a slideshow of the street artist Banksy's work in Israel / Palestine and viewed a presentation by another artist whose work deals with the region.

Arab - Israeli Conflict

In the previous lesson, students participated in a simulation of the roots of the Arab-Israeli conflict (The Pads and Jeds). The simulation focused on the Jewish and Palestinian competing claims on the land. After, students read a brief article about the historical roots of the conflict, taking notes and writing questions as they read. To finish  students began working on maps of the Middle East and Southern Asia.

WWII Essay

Today students reviewed the basics of writing a five paragraph persuasive essay. After, students began working on a rough draft of an essay about Hitler and/or the Holocaust. This essay will be used as a state writing sample.
